5 Things I Want Every Client to Know Before Their Session

Uncategorized

Whether you’re booking a family session, headshots, or branding photos, it’s completely normal to feel a mix of excitement and nerves. I’ve worked with hundreds of clients across Raleigh, Wake Forest, and the surrounding area, and there are a few things I always wish I could tell every person before we start.

Here are five things I want you to know so you walk into your session feeling confident, relaxed, and ready.

1. You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose

Seriously. You don’t need to practice in the mirror or study Pinterest boards. I’ll guide you through everything with easy prompts and gentle direction. Most of the time, the best photos happen when you stop thinking about the camera and just enjoy the moment.

Whether it’s a headshot session downtown or a family shoot at Joyner Park, I’ll make sure you feel at ease and look natural.

2. It’s Okay if Your Kids Are Wiggly (or Wild)

For family sessions, please don’t stress about your child being “cooperative.” I’ve seen it all and I promise, your child’s energy is never a problem. I work quickly, follow their lead when needed, and create space for fun, movement, and connection. Some of the best moments come from the unexpected.

3. What You Wear Does Matter (But Don’t Overthink It)

Coordinated, not matching, is the goal. Think soft tones, layers, and textures that feel like you. I send every client a style guide and am always happy to review outfit choices before your session. And yes, you’re welcome to text me photos if you’re stuck between two looks!

If you’re in Raleigh and need local suggestions, I can recommend a few favorite boutiques for last-minute finds.

4. Your Photos Should Feel Like You

I want your photos to reflect who you really are not a stiff, overly posed version of yourself. If there’s a specific vibe you’re going for (cozy and casual, modern and clean, warm and candid), let me know. This is a collaboration, and your comfort and personality are at the center of it all.

5. Trust the Process

Sometimes, clients leave thinking, “I’m not sure we got anything good.” And then their gallery arrives and they’re blown away. Trust that I see the light, the moments, and the angles, even when it doesn’t feel “perfect” in the moment. My job is to capture the beauty you don’t always see in real time.

Every session is a little different but the goal is always the same: to create images that feel honest, beautiful, and uniquely you.

Ready to book? I serve clients throughout Raleigh, Wake Forest, Durham, and beyond, and I’d love to help you tell your story whether it’s through family photos, personal branding, or professional headshots.
