I want to say a huge thank you to those that showed up at the Sunflower Minis in July at Dix Park in Raleigh. It was hot but a lot of fun. The results were stunning!! If you couldn’t make it out there, here is a quick recap of what happened.
Sunflower Bloom Watch
On July 1, we were on sunflower bloom watch. The city of Raleigh planted 198,000 seeds in May and predicted the bloom would occur in mid-late July. Through the years, I have been doing mini sessions in the sunflower field, and I know the bloom will happen in its own time. Scheduling sessions can be tricky because the photo session will occur when the bloom happens. Jessica Woodall Photography is super flexible regarding scheduling the sunflower minis. This year I decided to book the minis for the end of July, but when the bloom happened in mid-July, I contacted my clients. We were successfully able to move all appointments to the weekend before.
Beautiful Sunflower Blooms
As usual, the sunflowers were beautiful, the field was crowded, and the sun was hot. I called my clients upon arrival so they would know where to meet me. By the way, I came up with a new technique for my clients to find me in the field, but that’s for next year, and I’m keeping it on the down low until then. Imagine row after row of towering golden sunflowers! That’s exactly how this field was. The fifteen minutes with each client passed so quickly. I had a few poses in mind, so we started with that. Then I referred to the client for ideas. If they had any, we did that. If not, I kept going. The results were stunning.
The Creative Process
After our time was up, I promised my clients that they would hear from me within two weeks. I was so eager to start the editing process I immediately started working on them the next day. Within one week, all my clients had access to their proofs in their online gallery. Below are a few of my favorites from this year’s sunflower mini sessions. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
